ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Freshman Julianne Bass (Costa Mesa, CA/Newport Harbor) was 7-for-8 with three doubles, a home run and four RBI as the Red Hawks posted a pair of shutouts, defeating RIT, 5-0 and 8-0. With the wins, Rensselaer improves to 27-3. The Tigers fall to 15-19.
In game one, RPI pitcher Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) hurled a one-hit complete game shut-out, striking out four batters to pick up her 12th win of the season. Bass was 4 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI while junior Katherine Valenta (LaGrange, IL/Lyons Township) was 2-for-4 with two RBI in the win. Ann Cosgrove (Albany, NY/Albany) also had two hits and a run batted in.
Senior Cailtin Krumm (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) picked up RIT’s only hit, a two-out single to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) allowed just two earned runs in seven innings for RIT.
In game two, Bass continued her hot hitting, going 3 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBI.
Stephanie Vanek (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) was 3 for 4 with a run scored and two RBI. Senior
Amy Huling (Vienna, VA/Holton-Arms) picked up her 11
th win of the year, allowing just three hits and striking out seven while going the distance for the Red Hawks. She was also 2 for 4 with two runs scored.
Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg), Nikki Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) and Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) had hits for RIT.
