NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Freshman Sara Finkbeiner (Napanoch, NY/Ellenville) went 5 for 6 with a home run, three runs and four RBI to lead Rensselaer to a doubleheader sweep of Mass. College of Liberal Arts, 9-3 and 10-2. With the wins, which were backed by solid pitching performances from freshman Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) and senior Amy Huling (Vienna, VA/Holton-Arms), the Red Hawks improve to 33-3 on the season. The Trailblazers fall to 9-27.
In the opener, RPI jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning and held a 7-0 lead after five-and-a-half innings. MCLA made it 7-2 after five complete before both teams scored again in the sixth inning. Finkbeiner led the Red Hawks' offense, going 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI while senior Stephanie Vanek (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) was 2 for 4 with a double and a home run, two runs and three runs batted in. Street allowed just four hits and one earned run with ten strikeouts in 6.0 innings to improve to 15-1.
Huling improved to 13-2 with a complete game three-hitter in the nightcap. She allowed just one earned run with five strikeouts. Offensively, Finkbeiner was 2 for 3 with a home run, a run and three RBI and sophomore Courtney Sweeney (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) added two singles, two runs and two runs batted in.
