GENEVA, N.Y. — The William Smith soccer team downed Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 3-0, in a Liberty League match to give head coach Aliceann Wilber her 350th career win. The Herons improve to 5-3-0 overall and 2-0 in the league, while the Red Hawks drop to 2-4-1 and 0-2 in the league.
Sophomore Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, CT) netted the first goal for William Smith just over 11 minutes into the game off a pass from junior Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, NH). The Herons took a two-goal lead with 13 seconds left to play in the first half when senior Alex Rieben (Guilford/Guilford, CT) scored on a free kick, her second goal in as many games.
In the 71st minute, sophomore Rayza Santiago (Webster Schroeder/Webster, NY) tallied her second goal of the weekend off an assist from junior Tracy Stankavage (Chittenango/Chittenango, NY).
On the defensive end, senior goalkeeper Tara Marandino (Massapequa/Massapequa, NY) recorded eight saves for the Red Hawks.
