PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Plattsburgh State scored early in the match and added two more goals, including one more in the first half, on its way to a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a non-conference men’s soccer game at the Fieldhouse Complex. The Cardinals improve to 7-2-1 with their second consecutive win, while the Red Hawks fall to 4-5.
With just 1:48 elapsed in the game, Plattsburgh earned a corner kick, which Ryan Forsberg converted. It marked his third goal of the season. John LoGuirato gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead at the half, getting a pass from Mark Misiak in the 32nd minute.
Andrew Fusco wrapped up the scoring in the 78th minute with his first goal of the year.
Plattsburgh held advantages in shots (17-4) and corners (6-1). Aaron Gundle came off the bench to lead the Red Hawks with two shots.
Starting goalkeeper Ryan Toale, a freshman, registered his first career victory in only his second appearance for the Cardinals. RPI’s Jeffrey Krywancyk made five stops, including a sprawling save to his right on a penalty-kick attempt by Alex Deckert.
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday at Union (6pm). Rensselaer is also in action on Saturday for a match at Oneonta State (1pm).
