SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Rensselaer and SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer teams played to a scoreless double-overtime draw in non-conference action at College Park Field on the campus of Union College Sunday afternoon. Rensselaer stands at 0-1-1 on the short season while New Paltz posts a 1-1-0 record.
New Paltz held a 16-10 shot advantage, including a 9-3 onslaught in the second half, but Rensselaer senior goaltender Tara Marandino (Massapequa, NY/ Massapequa) made eight saves on the day to keep the Hawks at bay.
New Paltz freshman Salley Kafko (Brooklyn, NY/ Midwood) had the closest scoring chance of the first half when she sent a shot wide across the net from the right side past Rensselaer’s Marandino, who had come out of the net to play a previously wide shot.
Marandino came up big in the 80th minute, hauling down a shot by New Paltz sophomore Kate Addis (Amherst, NY/ Amherst) which came after a direct kick.
Rensselear put three shots on net in the first overtime, including two in the 99th minute as freshmen Jacquelyn Garlasco (Paramus, NJ/ Immaculate Heart Academy) and Amanda Nicklin (Ridgefield, CT/ Ridgefield) sent in shots from 18 yards out, only to be thwarted by New Paltz sophomore goaltender Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY/ Washingtonville). Boccard finished the day with four saves.
