Box Score

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Oneonta State scored an early goal en route to a 3-1 win against visiting Rensselaer this afternoon in men’s soccer action. The win for the Red Dragons was its fourth straight and raises its overall record to 7-2 while the loss drops the Red Hawks to 4-6 overall.

Oneonta junior Keith Manscuk (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) was once again the offensive leader with a pair of goals to bring his team-leading total to 16. After being held scoreless for the first time this past Wednesday, Manscuk wasted no time in giving Oneonta the early 1-0 lead.

Manscuk collected a great through ball from sophomore Mike Aingworth (Newark Valley, NY/Seton Catholic) and broke in all alone on the Rensselaer keeper. The Red Hawk keeper came charging off his line to try and break up the rush, but Manscuk was able to push the ball by him and then raced to finish the play off for the 1-0 Oneonta lead in the 12th minute.

Manscuk has now registered at least one point in all nine games this season, which is the second best streak in the program’s history. Through the first nine games he now has an amazing 38 points on 16 goals and six assists.

The score remained 1-0 at the break with the hosts holding a 6-1 edge in shots.
Oneonta made it 2-0 in the 55th minute on a goal by junior Michael Mahoney (New City, NY/Clarkstown North). Mahoney took advantage of a head ball that bounced loose towards the Rensselaer goal, which he was able to get to first. He finished the play by sliding the ball past the keeper along the ground into the far left corner.

Manscuk gave the Red Dragons a three-goal lead in the 67th minute when he stole the ball from a Rensselaer defender inside the box and then floated a ball over the head of the Red Hawk keeper.

Rensselaer scored its goal in the 86th minute on a goal by freshman Luke Burton (Remsen, NY/Remsen). Burton took a pass from classmate Gregory Roundfield (Los Angeles, CA/Loyola of Los Angeles) and one-timed it by a diving Jonathan Korn (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills).

Korn picked up his fifth win of the season in goal for Oneonta. He made one save in the contest as he remains undefeated in his rookie season for the Red Dragons. Juniors Jeffrey Krywanczyk (Chazy, NY/Chazy Central) and Mike Prince (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) combined for six saves (three saves each) in the loss for the Red Hawks.

Oneonta will be on the road this Tuesday against St. John Fisher beginning at 7:00 pm. RPI returns to action on Friday at Union (4pm).
