POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Destany Eagles (Conway, S.C./Carolina Forest) led three student-athletes in double figures with 17 points as the visiting Red Hawks defeated Vassar, 62-44, in a Liberty League matchup.  RPI improved to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the Liberty League by winning its seventh straight game and tenth of the last 11.  Vassar falls to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the LL.

Rensselaer held a 47-31 advantage in rebounding, including a 21-7 edge in offensive boards.  Sophomore Elizabeth Barker (Springfield, MA/Cathedral) led the Red Hawks with 12 caroms, including three offensive.  She also had 12 points and two steals.  Classmate Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda) added 14 points and nine rebounds (4 offensive), two assists, two steals, and a block.  Eagles also had three boards, an assist, and a game-high four steals.

RPI jumped to an early 10-2 lead when Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) connected on her second basket of the game. Vassar responded with a 7-0 run to trail by one (10-9) with 9:37 remaining in the first half. RPI went on to take a 13-point lead with 1:38 to play, but Chelsea
Katzenberg (Middlesex, VT/U-32) and Rachel Cerlen (Florham Park, NJ/Milburn) converted back-to-back three-point plays, making the score 31-22 to end the half.

Vassar switched to a zone defense to open the second half and the Brewers went on a 11-5 run in the first seven minutes. Vassar repeatedly threatened RPI’s lead, coming within one point on two separate occasions, but was never able to get the advantage in the second half.

Katzenberg made a jumper at the 7:07 mark, making the score 46-43 in favor of RPI. It proved to be Vassar’s last made field goal of the game and RPI began to pull away with 4:15 to play in the game, when Coleman made a lay-up for a nine-point cushion, 53-44. The visitors rattled off nine straight points to end with an 18-point advantage, 62-44.

Vassar was led by Katzenberg (Middlesex, VT/U-32), who had 14 points, and Cerlen (Florham Park, NJ/Milburn), who added 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/South Portland) also had a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) with four assists.
