CANTON, N.Y. - Senior guard Destany Eagles (Conway, SC/Carolina Forest) put Rensselaer ahead, 55-54, with 2:47 left in the second half but those would be the last points the Red Hawks scored in falling at St. Lawrence, 58-55, in a Liberty League game in a battle between first place teams. With the win the homestanding Saints improve to 15-1 overall and 5-0 in the league. RPI, which saw its winning streak snapped at eight games, falls to 11-5 and 4-1.
St. Lawrence, which scored its last four points from the free throw line, held a 30-27 lead at halftime, despite Rensselaer shooting 40.0% in the half.
Four student-athletes reached double digits in points for the Red Hawks, led by Eagles, who had 11. She also had two rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda), Caitlyn Charest (Swansea, MA/LaSalle Academy), and Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) poured in ten points apiece. Baranowski also had a team-high seven rebounds.
For St. Lawrence, Jamie Wolff scored a game-high 15 points while Katie Palmer had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
