PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Rensselaer scored three goals in the second period, including two from junior Jonathan Ornelas (Mississauga, ON/Milton IceHawks) and the Engineers went on to defeat Brown, 4-3, in an ECAC Hockey League contest at Meehan Auditorium.  Ornelas finished with two goals and an assist in helping RPI win for the second straight night and third time in its last five games.

Brown jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period but the Engineers scored three straight goals in the second period to gain control.  RPI tied the game just 30 seconds into the second frame, capitalizing on a turnover in Brown’s offensive end, as Ornelas knocked in the rebound of an Oren Eizenman (Toronto, ON/Wexford Raiders) shot.

Ornelas then gave the Engineers a 2-1 lead when he knocked the puck past freshman Dan Rosen (Syosset, NY/Ashwaubenon) on the power-play at 6:31. Just three minutes later, at 9:44, Andrei Uryadov (St. Petersburgh, Russia/South Kent School) beat Rosen with a low-angle shot from the side of the right face-off circle that snuck into the back of the net under the near-side of the cross-bar.

The homestanding Bears got one goal back late in the middle stanza and scored early in the third period to tie the game at 3-3.  RPI sophomore Matt Angers-Goulet (St. Augustin, PQ/Notre Dame Hounds), who assisted on Ornelas's second goal, broke the deadlock with a power play goal - RPI's second of the night - at 9:09 of the third period.

Sophomore Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria/New York Apple Core) made 25 saves for the win while Rosen suffered the loss for the Bears.  He had 20 saves on the night.

Rensselaer improves to 8-11-7 overall and 4-6-4 in the ECAC Hockey League.  Brown falls to 8-9-4 and 4-8-2.  The Engineers return to the ice on Friday and Saturday at Dartmouth and Harvard with both contests beginning at 7pm.  Brown is back in action this weekend hosting Princeton and Quinnipiac.
