TROY, N.Y. – An overtime goal from senior Keith Manscuk (Rochester, NY/Aquinas) lifted Oneonta State to a, 2OT, 2-1 victory over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men’s soccer team, this evening at Harkness Field. The Red Dragons finish the regular season 14-5 overall (11-0-0 SUNYAC), while the Red Hawks end up 7-6-4 (2-3-2 Liberty League) for the year.

The two teams played to a scoreless first half. The Red Dragons had a number of quality scoring chances, but were unable to take a lead. They put five of their nine shots on goal, but Red Hawks senior goalkeeper Jeffery Krywanczyk (Chazy, NY/Chazy Central) was up to the task on each occasion.

The best first half chance to score from either team came in the 27th minute, when Manscuk found himself one-on-one with Krywanczyk, who came out to close down the shooting angle. The Red Dragons’ forward’s shot rolled just wide of the far post.

Gary Sroka (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) netted the go-ahead tally in the 64th minute on a breakaway. He stole the ball from an Oneonta St. defender and went in alone on goal. Sroka’s right-footed shot beat Red Dragons goalie Jonathan Korn (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollows Hills) for the unassisted tally.

Five minutes later Oneonta St. answered off of a corner kick by senior Russell Skolnik (Syosset, NY/Syosset). The in-swinging cross was headed home nicely by Kyle Hoffer (Bardonia,NY/Albertus Magnus) to even the game at one apiece. Hoffer leaped in the air and redirected the ball just under the crossbar for the goal.

Few scoring opportunities presented themselves for either side in the first overtime period, with Rensselaer’s Sean Fleury (Princeton, MA/Wachusett Regional) recording the only shot on goal.

A through ball from Oneonta St. forward Michael Mahoney sent Manscuk in alone for the game winning goal. The 102nd minute tally was the 14th of the season for Manscuk, who slotted the ball past Krywanczyk into the side-netting, ending the game.

Tonight’s contest was the last of the regular season for both Rensselaer and Oneonta St.
