TROY, N.Y. – Senior forward Michelle Clemente (Rensselaer, NY/Columbia) had a hand in all three goals, scoring two and assisting on the third, to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team to a 3-1 win over Hamilton. The Red Hawks improve to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play while the Continentals drop to 3-6 and 1-3 in the Liberty League.

Clemente gave the homestanding Red Hawks a 2-0 lead in the first half with her team-leading fourth and fifth goals of the year. The senior forward put RPI onto the board at 10:46 after sophomore Megan McNamara (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) stick-handled into the zone and drew the goalie out. Dishing the ball to the right side, Clemente buried it past Continentals’ keeper Courtney DeMaria (Littleton, MA/Groton School) for the goal.

With just over ten minutes remaining on the clock, Clemente once again found the back of the goal off a pass from freshman Audrey Newcomb (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland Regional) at 24:22. Standing just to the left of the half circle, Newcomb passed the ball across the front of the goal to Clemente, who one-timed it past DeMaria.

In the second half, the Continentals finally got on the scoreboard when senior Jess Goldberg (Pittsburgh, PA/Choate Rosemary Hall) found the ball in a pile-up in front of the net. Freshman Carly Andrascik (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) earned the assist on the goal after sending a short pass to Goldberg in front.

The Red Hawks tallied an insurance goal with just under two minutes remaining as Sara Stylinski (Southington, CT/Southington) lifted the ball up over the back of the goalie off a re-directed pass from Clemente.

Sophomore Kate Williams (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) posted four saves in the win while her counterpart, DeMaria had 13 stops.

Rensselaer returns to action tomorrow afternoon against 18th-ranked St. Lawrence (4pm). The Continentals also return to the field on Saturday at Vassar (2pm).
