TROY, N.Y. – A first half goal from junior Erica Dressler (Farmington, CT/Miss Porter’s School) propelled 10th-ranked Hamilton to a 1-0 victory over the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s soccer team. The Continentals improve to 9-0-1 overall (4-0-1 Liberty League), while the Red Hawks fall to 6-5-1 (1-3-0 Liberty).
Hamilton scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute after a scramble in front of the RPI goal. Dressler finished a shot after the Red Hawks were unable to clear it out of their defensive end. Her shot from inside the six yard area is the team leading 8th goal of the season.
An earlier chance by the Continentals was thwarted by RPI freshman Tracy Breslin (Latham, NY/Shaker) who cleared a ball off of her own goal line. Breslin, who was covering the far post after a corner kick, kept Hamilton at bay.
Both teams had chances to score in the second half, but neither were able to find the back of the net. Megan Brousseau (Heidelberg, Germany/Heidelberg American) had an opportunity to put Hamilton up, 2-0 in the second stanza, but her free kick from about 40 yards away hit the crossbar.
Sarah Hinz (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock) had the Red Hawks best chance on goal, when she found an opening and inside the 18 yard area, but her shot was ripped directly in the waiting arms of Hamilton goalkeeper Caitlin McGilley (Northfield, NJ/The Lawrenceville School)
Rensselaer is back in action on Tuesday when it host Hartwick at Harkness Field (7pm). Hamilton returns to play on Saturday when it hosts Utica (1pm).
