POTSDAM, N.Y. – Senior defenseman Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT/Berkshire School) scored at the 1:22 mark in overtime to lift Clarkson University to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer in ECAC Women’s Hockey action this evening. The Golden Knights improve to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play. The Engineers fall to 6-3-1 on the season with a 1-1-1 league mark.

Morrison gave Clarkson the victory after senior Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO/Colorado Selects) chipped the puck up from deep in the zone to Morrison at the top of the slot. Firing off a quick shot through traffic, the puck found its way into the net over the shoulder of Rensselaer netminder Ashley Mayr (Burnaby, BC/BC Breakers) for the game-winner.

Golden Knights sophomore Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, PQ/St. Laurent College) broke a scoreless tie at 3:59 of the third period after converting a pass from classmate Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ON/Toronto Aeros). Bringing the puck up the right side, Eusepi banked a shot of the board behind the net to Lavoie, who wrapped the puck in past the stick-side of Mayr for the power play marker.

Rensselaer took little time to knot the score back up at 1-1 when Kendra Dunlop (Granum, AB/Warner Hockey School) scored her fourth goal of the season off a rebound in front. An initial attempt by sophomore Rossli Chace (Hampton Falls, NH/Warner Hockey School) was deflected off the pads of Clarkson goaltender Eve Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, PQ/St. Laurent College) and Dunlop was able to pick up the puck in front for the equalizer. Junior Nicole McDonald (Ottawa, ON/Ottawa Raiders) also earned an assist on the goal.

Clarkson, which held a 27-24 shot advantage over the Engineers in the contest, saw Grandmont-Berube make 23 saves on the evening. Mayr stopped 25 shots in the loss for RPI.

Both teams return to action tomorrow afternoon as the Golden Knights host Union at Cheel Arena. RPI heads to nationally-ranked St. Lawrence for a showdown with the Saints. Both games begin at 4pm.
