SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas - Colby-Sawyer College finished the game with a 22-5 run in defeating Rensselaer 65-45 in the South Padre Island Shootout, Saturday afternoon. After two Red Hawks free throws from Tory Lyons cut the Chargers lead to 43-40 with 12:22 remaining in the game, Colby-Sawyer scored the next eight points, and 22 of the final 27 to open up what was a tightly contested first 30 minutes. The Chargers improve to 6-4, while Rensselaer falls to 4-5.
Leading the way for the Chargers, was senior Noelle Surette, whose double-double, included 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ellen Naughton chipped in with 12 points, and three assists. Naughton was a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line.
For the Red Hawks, junior Elizabeth Barker notched a double-double of her own, scoring 14 points and adding a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior captain Missy Jackman added nine points, six boards and two assists.
Rensselaer led the contest early on, including their largest lead of 18-10, halfway through the first half. Colby-Sawyer fought their way back, taking a 32-27 lead into the half. A lead they would not relinquish.
The Red Hawks return to action on January 12, when they host Middlebury College at 2pm in the Robison Gym.
