Simmons' career-high 31 points leads Red Hawks

BOSTON, Mass. - #Senior Sam Simmons# (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI)  men's basketball team to a 76-62 victory over Wentworth. With the win, the Red Hawks improve to 3-3 on the season, while the homestanding Leopards fall to 4-3.

RPI took a 41-30 first half lead on 42.5% shooting, including 33.3% (2-6) from 3-point range. The Leopards had a six-point lead early in the half but were unable to hold off Simmons and the Red Hawks.

Rensselaer held Wentworth to 34.5% from the floor in the second half to secure the victory. The Red Hawks, who led by as much as 15 midway through the second were able to keep the Leopards from getting close down the stretch.

 Along with his 31 points, Simmons added 10 rebounds, three assists and a block. Senior Sam Zullo (Indian Lake, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) chipped in scoring 11 points and picked up six assists.

For Wentworth, guard Sherrad Prezzie-Blue (Norwalk, CT/McMahon) notched a team-high 24 points and four assists. He was followed by Shane West (Saco, ME/Milford) who had 12 points and a team-high eight boards.
