Men's Hockey Drops 6-3 Decision

CANTON, N.Y. - St. Lawrence scored twice in a 1:37 span and the Saints added an empty net goal to turn a 3-3 tie into a 6-3 win over the Rensselaer men's hockey team.  With the win SLU improves to 18-11-2 overall and 14-4-1 in the ECAC Hockey League.  The 15th-ranked Saints maintain their place in first in the league standings.  RPI, which is in tenth place, falls to 9-15-7 and 5-10-4. 

Engineers senior forward Oren Eizenman (Toronto, ON/Wexford Raiders) opened the scoring just 41 seconds into the first period and Rensselaer held the advantage until 19:36 of the opening stanza when St. Lawrence tied the score.

The homestanding Saints went ahead midway through the second period and tacked on their third goal at 18:26.  RPI got a goal right back when senior Kirk MacDonald (Victoria, BC/Victoria Salsa) tallied on the power play with just 50 seconds remaining in the period.

Eizenman tied the score at 5:48 of the third period but St. Lawrence's Jordan Hack countered at 13:42.  SLU added goals at 15:19 and 18:37 for the three-goal victory.

In addition to Eizenman's two goals, MacDonald finished with a goal and an assist while sophomore Andrei Uryadov (St. Petersburg, Russia/South Kent) chipped in with two assists.

Junior Jordan Alford (Red Deer, AB/Canmore Eagles) and sophomore Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria/New York Apple Core) combined for 27 saves for RPI.  Alex Petizian stopped 17 shots for the Saints.

Rensselaer is right back in action on Saturday night at 7pm at #9 Clarkson University.  St. Lawrence hosts Union College on Saturday at 7pm.
