HANOVER, N.H. – Dartmouth College got a goal and an assist from sophomore Maggie Kennedy (West Hartford, CT/Loomis Chaffee) and netminder Carli Clemis (Taber, AB/Midget AA Boys) turned aside 15 shots to lead the Big Green to a 3-1 win over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to sweep the Engineers, 2 games to 0, in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Hockey League Playoffs.

The Big Green, who improve to 25-4-2, will host next weekend’s ECACHL semifinals against an opponent to be determined. Rensselaer concludes the season, its first as a member of the league, with a 12-22-1 record.

Dartmouth gained the early 1-0 advantage in the opening frame on freshman Jenna Cunningham’s (Medicine Hat, AB/Kingsland Hawks) 16th goal of the season, a power play marker. Kennedy earned the primary assist on the goal after the rebounded of her shot landed on the stick of Cunningham, who lifted it past RPI goalie Ashley Mayr (Burnaby, BC/BC Breakers) at 3:59.

The Big Green, which controlled the shot count through the first stanza, 16-5, couldn’t hold back the Engineers in the second frame as freshman defenseman Laura Gersten (Queensbury, NY/Troy-Albany Ice Cats) tied things up for RPI mid-way through the period.

Passing the puck in the Big Green zone, junior Julie Aho (Ann Arbor, MI/Birmingham Rangers) sent it to freshman Rossli Chace (Hampton Falls, NH/Governor Dummer Academy), who chipped it out to the point to Gersten for the goal past Carli Clemis (Taber, AB/Midget AA Boys) at the 10:10 mark.

Kennedy broke the 1-1 draw at 3:09 of the final period with an unassisted marker and junior Nicole Ruta (Pickering, ON/Toronto Aeros Intermediate) sealed the series win as time winded down with power play goal at 18:35.

Rensselaer attempted a comeback as time winded down, pulling Mayr in favor of the extra-attacker, but the Engineers could not find the back of the net. The RPI goalie posted another solid effort in the loss, stopping 42 shots, including 15 in each of the first two periods. She finishes the season with a personal record of 11-20-1.
