TROY, N.Y. – Sophomore forward Matt Angers-Goulet scored twice, including the game-winning goal in overtime, to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over Colgate University in an ECAC Hockey League contest at the Houston Field House.

The game-winning play started behind RPI’s own net, where sophomore defenseman Reed Kipp sent up the far boards. Junior Jonathan Ornelas chipped the puck up the boards to Angers-Goulet passed the puck off the boards in the neutral zone and broke in alone on Raiders goaltender Mark Dekanich. Angers-Goulet’s shot through the netminder’s legs gave the home team the victory.

Angers-Goulet’s first goal of the game, which came from in front of the net with the Engineers on the power play, tied the score at 2-2 at 8:03 of the second period. Ornelas, who slid the puck to Angers-Goulet for a tap-in, earned the primary assist while freshman Paul Kerins tallied the secondary.

Colgate jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of first period goal. Junior Tyler Burton finished a tic-tac-toe passing play when he scored from in front at 8:27 and freshman David McIntyre doubled the lead 2:58 later. Burton’s goal was set up by Marc Fulton and Jesse Winchester while McIntyre’s, which came on a deflection in front, was assisted by Mark Anderson and Dustin Gillanders.

RPI senior Kirk MacDonald cut the Engineers’ deficit in half when he scored from the slot at 18:54 of the first period.

Sophomore Mathias Lange earned the win in goal from RPI by stopping 25 shots, including a penalty shot in the third period with the game tied, 2-2. Dekanich finished with 20 saves.

Rensselaer, which is now 9-13-7 overall and 5-8-4 in the league, returns to the ice on Saturday against 20th-ranked Cornell University. Colgate, which is 12-15-4 and 6-8-3, is at Union College on Saturday night. Both games are ECAC Hockey League games that begin at 7pm.
