Baranowski posts 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Senior Kristi Baranowski posted 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds to lead Rensselaer to a 57-50 victory over Skidmore in Liberty League women’s basketball action this evening. The Red Hawks are now 14-7 with a 7-3 league mark. The Thoroughbreds fall to 10-12 overall and 2-9 in the Liberty League.

The score remained close through the opening minutes of the contest until Rensselaer pulled away for an eight-point advantage (15-7) on a jumper by sophomore Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda). The Red Hawks, who shot 43.3% from the field in the first half, maintained a ten-point advantage throughout the frame and led by as many as 12 points (31-19) at 2:30 before heading into the halftime with a 31-21 lead.

Rensselaer continued to lead by ten points through much of the second half, but the Thoroughbreds mounted a comeback, cutting the Red Hawks lead to two (36-34) at 13:48 before tying the contest 36-all at 12:54.

Sophomore Kellye Caufield (Monroe, CT/Masuk) gave Skidmore its first lead of the contest at 7:53 (42-41), but a three-pointer from senior Destany Eagles (Conway, SC/Carolina Forest) put the Red Hawks ahead and RPI held on for the win.

In addition to Baranowski, who also added an assist and a steal, Eagles finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Coleman added nine points and six caroms while sophomore Elizabeth Barker (Springfield, MA/Cathedral) chipped in with six points and six rebounds.

Skidmore was led by senior Krystal Coke (Brooklyn, NY/Poly Prep Country Day) who scored a game-high 14 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Caufield added 11 points and five boards for the Thoroughbreds.

Rensselaer returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a game at area-rival Union (2pm). Skidmore is also in action tomorrow when it hosts Vassar (2pm).
