CLEARWATER, Fla. - Junior Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) scored six goals and classmate PJ McComb (Newington, CT/Newington) added seven points, including five assists, and the Rensselaer men's lacrosse team held on to defeat Queens University, 12-11.  RPI improves to 3-0 while Queens, a Division II school in North Carolina, falls to 2-4.

Rensselaer scored the first five goals, all in the first quarter, and led 6-4 at halftime.  The Red Hawks led by three goals (8-5) after three quarters before the Royals stormed back to tie the score at 10-10 in the fourth quarter.  RPI scored the next two goals for a 12-10 lead, but Queens tallied to pull within one with 1:50 remaining.  The Royals could not tie the score, despite a late extra-man opportunity.

In addition to MacDiarmid and McComb, four others had single goals for Rensselaer, including Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington), who also recorded two assists.  Junior John Thibdeau (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) made eight saves in the cage for the Red Hawks.

Queens sophomore Tyler Rauch (Lake Mary, FL/Lake Mary) made 12 saves in the loss.  The Royals were led offensively by senior David Overberg (Cincinnati, OH/Moeller), who scored three goals with one assist.
