WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Rensselaer scored nine goals in the opening half, and seven players recorded multiple points in the game to lead the Red Hawks to a 16-9 victory over Denison in non-conference women’s lacrosse action. With its first victory of the season, RPI improves to 1-1. Denison falls to 0-1 in its season opener.

The Red Hawks opened the scoring with three goals in the first ten minutes, including two from sophomore Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs). Denison answered pulling to within a goal (3-2) at the 20:23 mark, but RPI responded with six of the next nine goals, including three from junior Natalie White (Guilford, CT/Guilford), for a 9-5 advantage at halftime.

Rensselaer came out strong in the second half, netting three straight goals for a 12-5 lead. Junior Quinn Simmons (Medina, OH/Medina), who had a team-high three goals for Denison, helped pull the Big Red to within five (14-9) with six minutes remaining, but RPI added a pair of goals in the final minutes to secure the victory.

The Red Hawks were paced by Clark, White and freshman Sam Fennessey (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs), who all had a team-high four goals. Junior Morgan Wahl (Lexington, MA/Lexington), who had a team-high seven shots on goal, posted two goals and an assist, while freshman Kathy Rogers (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island) added a goal and an assist.

Freshmen goalies Emily Perkins (Bow, NH/Bow) and Ariana Hood (Severn, MD/Old Mill) split the game in the cage, making four and five saves, respectively.
