GENEVA, N.Y. - William Smith scored nine of the game's last ten goals and the Herons defeated Rensselaer, 14-8, in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game.  William Smith improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the league while Rensselaer falls to 2-3 and 0-1.

The visiting Red Hawks held a 6-4 advantage at halftime - thanks to goals by six different players - and a 7-5 lead early in the second half before the Herons took control with four consecutive goals before RPI got on the board again.  William Smith scored the game's next five for the final margin.

Freshman Molly Fitzgerald (Sudbury, MA/Gould Academy) had a team-best four points for the Herons, including three goals and an assist, while four others had three points apiece.  Sophomore Becky Josefiak (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca) had nine saves in the goal for the home team.

Rensselaer was led offensively by sophomore Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), who had a goal and two assists, and junior Natalie White (Guilford, CT/Guilford), who scored twice.  Freshman Sam Fennessey (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) added a goal and an assist.

Freshman Ariana Hood (Severn, MD/Old Mill) started for RPI, making eight saves in the first half.  Classmate Emily Perkins (Bow, NH/Bow) stopped six shots in the second half.
