ORLANDO, Fla. - The Rensselaer baseball team opened the 2007 season with a doubleheader sweep of Salve Regina, defeating the Seahawks, 9-2 and 3-2, at Walt Disney World. Junior Tim Klein (Westwood, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) pitched in both games, earning the victory in the second game. Salve Regina falls to 0-2.
After RPI defeated Salve Regina, 9-2, in the opener, junior Joe Zongol pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs, before giving way to Klein, who pitched 1.2 innings of hitless relief. Offensively, freshman Patrick Reardon (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute) knocked in the game-winning run with a sixth inning single to left field. Junior Stevan Slusher (Pedricktown, NJ/Penns Grove) began the inning with a base hit and moved to third base on a hit by senior Adam Lasek (Waterford, NY/Waterford) before scoring on Reardon's hit.
Senior Ken Carroll (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) had a single and a double with a run batted in, while freshman Andrew Krushelynski (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Brother Rice) was 2-for-2 with two singles. Lasek was also 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and a stolen base.

Senior Luke Calzone (Bethel, CT/Bethel) earned the win in the first game, allowing just two runs, one earned, with eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Klein pitched the final 1.2 for the Red Hawks, who saw senior Jason Pollard (Hudson, NY/Hudson) go 3-for-5 with an RBI and freshman Camden Mamigonian (Dover, NH/Dover) hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
