SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Junior midfielder Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) scored four goals and had an assist to help Rensselaer's men's lacrosse team improve to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the Liberty League with a 10-9 victory at Union in a league contest.  The Dutchmen fall to 2-4 and 0-1.

RPI, which if off to its best start since the 1966 team won its first ten games, scored five of the game's first six goals.  The Red Hawks goals came from five different players.  Union scored four of the next five - all in the second quarter - to pull within 6-5 at halftime.

Rensselaer opened an 8-5 lead on a Sampson goal at 8:32 of the third quarter but the Dutchmen's Jon Miller (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) pulled the home team to within two goals (8-6) after three quarters.  Sampson, who had two unassisted goals, then scored once and set up another in the fourth quarter for a 10-7 lead at the 10:13 mark.  Miller scored again for Union at 3:47 and the Dutchmen added its final goal as the final horn sounded.

In addition to Sampson, other multiple point producers for RPI included junior attack PJ McComb (Newington, CT/Newington), who had a goal and three assists, and classmate Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), who scored twice.  Junior John Thibdeau (Altamont, NY/Bethlehem) made ten saves in the cage, including four in the fourth quarter.

Union was paced by Miller, who had four goals, and Scott Garibaldi, who scored two goals and set up a third.  Rob Oram stopped 11 shots for the Dutchmen.
