ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Nazareth scored the game's first seven goals, including six in the first half, and the Golden Flyers defeated Rensselaer, 12-4, in a non-league women's lacrosse game. Nazareth, which got goals from seven different players, improves to 3-1. RPI falls to 2-4.
The Golden Flyers scored 39 seconds into the game and again just 53 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Two more goals before the game was ten minutes old gave the home team a commanding lead.
The Red Hawks got on the board three minutes into the second half when freshman Sam Fennessey (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) scored off a feed from sophomore Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs). Nazareth tallied the next three goals before sophomore Emily Donowick (West Seneca, NY/Nichols School) and Fennessey (free position) notched back-to-back goals for RPI. Senior Sabrina Alimi (Dewitt, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) scored the game's final goal on a free position shot with 52 seconds remaining.
Freshmen Ariana Hood (Severn, MD/Old Mill) and Emily Perkins (Bow, NH/Bow) shared time in goal for Rensselaer. Hood made four saves in 23:23 before Perkins stopped six in the final 36:37.
The Golden Flyers were led offensively by Tia Morgia (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and Caitlin Zimmer (East Rochester, NY/East Rochester), who had three goals apiece, and Allison Bayer (Corning, NY/Corning East), who scored twice and assisted on a third. Nazareth saw two goaltenders make seven saves.
