ODESSA, Fla. - The Rensselaer baseball team knocked out 16 runs on 17 hits and freshman John Dreimiller (Ticonderoga, NY/Ticonderoga) allowed no runs and just four hits in seven innings as the Red Hawks defeated SUNY IT, 16-1.
Dreimiller struck out seven batters and walked just two in his first career start for 23rd-ranked Rensselaer, which is now 4-0.
RPI scored five runs in the first inning, one in the third, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth inning to take an 11-0 lead before SUNY IT got on the board in the eighth inning. The Red Hawks’ offense was led by senior Adam Lasek (Waterford, NY/Waterford), who had three hits, including a double, a run, and three runs batted in. Classmate Ken Carroll (Shelton, CT/Fairfield Prep) added two singles and three RBI, while fellow senior Jason Pollard (Hudson, NY/Hudson) had two hits in three at bats with two runs and a stolen base. Sophomore Jim Devine (Castleton, NY/East Greenbush) added two hits, two runs, and a run batted in.
