TROY, N.Y. – Led by a game-best six goals from sophomore Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women’s lacrosse team rallied for a 14-12 Liberty League victory over Clarkson University this afternoon.

The Red Hawks, which are 15-0 all-time against the Golden Knights, improve to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Clarkson is now 4-8 with a 1-6 Liberty League mark.

Clarkson struck first in the opening half after freshman Kimberly Loucks (Waterloo, NY/Waterloo) won the draw control and maneuvered up the field for the unassisted tally past RPI goalie Emily Perkins (Bow, NH/Bow). The Red Hawks wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard with Clark scoring back-to-back goals for a 2-1 lead at 23:05. With the Red Hawks leading 6-4, the Golden Knights would close the gap on a goal by freshman Jennie Stock (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown), but Rensselaer headed into the intermission with a 7-5.

In the second half, the Red Hawks extended their lead to 9-5 with a pair of goals in the opening minutes, but Clarkson rallied for the next three goals to cut the RPI lead to one (9-8). Freshman Sam Fennessey (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Clark cushioned the lead to three for the Red Hawks (11-8), but the Golden Knights refused to back down.

Behind two goals from junior Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY/Cortland), Clarkson tied the game at 11-11 with 14:37 to play. Junior Morgan Wahl (Lexington, MA/Lexington) broke the tie at 9:52, but the Golden Knights again found the back of the net to make it 12-12 with 6:31 remaining.

In the end it was Clark who lifted the Red Hawks to victory, tallying at 4:39 past Golden Knights goalie Meagan Emlaw (Norfolk, NY/Norwood-Norfolk) for a 13-12 lead. RPI added a final goal with two seconds remaining for the win.

In addition to Clark, the Red Hawks saw eight different players record a goal, including sophomore Carly Mahony (Topsfield, MA/Masconomet Regional), who also had an assist. Perkins, who started in goal, finished with four saves while freshman Arianna Hood (Severn, MD/Old Mill) stopped seven for her first victory of the season.

For Clarkson, Chace tallied a team-high three goals and freshman Brittnie Carroll (Dexter, NY/General Brown) added two goals and an assist. Six other players recorded points in the contest, which saw Emlaw make 12 saves.

Rensselaer is back in action tomorrow afternoon when it battles St. Lawrence at 3pm at Harkness Field. Clarkson also plays tomorrow at Vassar (1pm).
