Women's Lax Defeated by Rochester, 12-5

Rochester, N.Y. – Christina Montano (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) and Heidi Davies (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) scopred three goals apiece to spark the University of Rochester to a 12-5 women’s lacrosse victory over visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) at Edwin Fauver Stadium here today.

Abby Woodward (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) and Lindsay Dakin (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) added two goals apiece for the Yellowjackets. Rochester improved to 3-4 in the Liberty League and 3-7 overall.

Morgan Wahl (Lexington, MA/Lexington) scored two goals and added one assist for the Red Hawks (2-4 Liberty League, 4-7 overall). Andrea Flynn (Guilford, CT/Guilford), Natalie White (Guilford, CT/Guilford), and Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) added a goal each.

Leslie Dube (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) made nine saves in goal for Rochester, eight in the second half. Emily Perkins (Bow, NH/Bow) played the first 41:08 in goal for RPI, She made five saves and allowed eight goals. Ariana Hood (Severn, MD/Old Mill) played the last 18:52 with two saves and four goals allowed.

Neither side could sustain an offense or maintain possession of the ball. Each team had 27 turnovers. Rochester caused 12 RPI miscues (Marlena Fisher [Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy] had three caused TOs) while RPI caused ten Rochester giveaways (three by Emily Donowick [West Seneca, NY/The Nichols School]).

Wahl scored just 21 seconds into the match from 10 yards away. With teammates cutting in front of goal, she lofted a soft pass/shot that floated over Dube’s shoulder and into the back of the net.

It took Rochester 10 minutes to get even with Davies scoring from in front with 19:25 left. Woodward scored off a pass from Amanda Case (McLean, VA/Langley) at 15:52, but Clark equalized for the Red Hawks with 14:24 left.

Free position goals by Davies and Montano three minutes apart put the Yellowjackets up for good at 4-2. Rochester pushed the lead to 5-2 with 2:13 left and Montano scored with 13 seconds left for a 6-2 cushion at the break.

On Saturday, Rochester hosts Vassar, one of the teams the Yellowjackets are chasing to secure the fourth playoff spot in the Liberty League. RPI heads for sixth-ranked Hamilton College which is unbeaten in league play (7-0) and has won 10 straight overall.
