ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Highlighted by a five-inning no-hitter by freshman pitcher Michelle Bianchetti (Highland Mills, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) in the second game, visiting Rensselaer swept a non-conference doubleheader at Nazareth Saturday, winning by scores of 7-2 and 8-0.

The Red Hawks improved to 20-8 overall with the sweep while the Golden Flyers fall to 8-24.

Bianchetti had four strikeouts in the second game and walked only two in pitching the no-hitter. Julianne Bass (Costa Mesa, CA/Newport Harbor) went 3-for-3 with a home run to provide the offensive support, which saw RPI explode for five runs in the top of the fifth inning.

In the first game, Nazareth was held to two hits by Rensselaer’s Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa), who finished with seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings. The Golden Flyers scored both runs in the fourth inning to tie things up led by a double from Laura Persico, but the Red Hawks broke open the game with two runs in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh.

Freshman Natalie Gendron (Auburn, NH/Manchester Memorial), junior Beth Gargon (East Hampton, CT/East Hampton) and sophomore Sara Finkbeiner (Napanoch, NY/Ellenville) all hit home runs in the win.

The Red Hawks return to action tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader at Liberty League rival Skidmore beginning at 1pm. Nazareth also returns to the field on Sunday with a twinbill against Brockport (1pm).
