CLINTON, N.Y. - Sophomore shortstop Sara Finkbeiner (Napanoch, NY/Ellenville) went 6 for 7 with five runs and three runs batted in to lead the Rensselaer softball team to a non-league doubleheader sweep of Hamilton, 10-0 and 14-6. With the victories RPI improves to 13-5, while the Continentals fall to 0-17.
In the first game, which lasted six innings, Finkbeiner was 4 for 4 with three runs and two RBI from her leadoff spot. Freshman designated player Natalie Gendron (Auburn, NH/Manchester Memorial) added two hits - a double and a triple - with two runs and a run batted in. Sophomore Michelle Street (East Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse) earned the win from the circle, allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts. She improved her personal record to 6-3.
The second game saw the Red Hawks score multiple runs in four of five innings on their way to the eight-run victory. Finkbeiner was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, while Gendron was 2 for 2 with a triple and two runs scored. Freshman Michelle Bianchetti (Highland Mills, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) struck out five in the complete game victory. She is now 6-2 this season.
