CANTON, N.Y. -- Behind a goal and a game-high three assists from junior Kevin Russell (Madison, CT/Fairfield Prep.), St. Lawrence took a 6-1 lead at halftime and went on to score four more for a 10-4 victory over Rensselaer in the semifinals of the Liberty League tournament.

With the win, the Saints improve to 13-1 and host the Liberty League Championship for the second consecutive year on Sunday against either #3 Clarkson or #2 Skidmore.  The Red Hawks wrap up the 2007 season at 10-5.

Holding a 6-1 lead at halftime, backed by two goals from senior Nick Mastine (Erin, OT/Berkshire School), who finished with a game-best three goals, the Saints continued to dominate on both sides of the field outscoring RPI, three goals to none in the third quarter.

Rensselaer mounted a comeback in the final quarter, taking advantage of numerous Saints penalties for three straight man-up goals.  Cutting the St. Lawrence lead to five (9-4) with just 4:09 remaining, Rensselaer continued to push, but saw the momentum shift as Russell scored the home team's final goal.

In addition to Russell and Mastine, the Saints got a goal and an assist each from senior Willie Lampinski (Canton, NY/Hugh C. Williams) and freshman Will McKee (Old Greenwich, CT/Gunnery School).  Senior goaltender Justin Demuth (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge), the 2007 Liberty League Player of the Year, finished with seven saves in the victory.

For Rensselaer, junior Briggs Thompson (East Lyme, CT/South Lyme) and freshman Paul Cerone (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) had a goal and an assist each.  Juniors Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) also scored for the Red Hawks, which saw senior Ryan Michels (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) post 12 saves in goal.
