Box Score
TROY, N.Y. – Senior Chris Rafferty (Milford, MA/Ararat) scored with under ten minutes remaining in regulation to tie the score and visiting Colby-Sawyer College tied Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the third game of the Fourth Annual Red Hawk Men’s Soccer Classic at Harkness Field. The Chargers are now 0-1-1 while the homestanding Red Hawks are 1-0-1.
On the game-tying goal, Rafferty beat an RPI defender to a rebound of a Brian Doucette (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) shot and knocked the ball into the net with 9:36 remaining in the second half.
Colby-Sawyer grabbed a 1-0 lead six minutes into the second half when freshman Corey McKean (Lisbon, NH/Lisbon) volleyed a loose ball into the top left corner. On an attempt to pull the ball out of the air, Red Hawks goalie Jeffrey Krywanczyk (Chazy, NY/Chazy Central Rural) collided with his own teammate, causing the ball to come loose. McKean hustled to the ball and scored.
The Red Hawks answered at 60:39 on a goal by freshman Jeff Hebert (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy). Classmate Blake Adams (Cedar Grove, NJ/Seton Hall Prepatory) earned the assist after popping the ball over the defense to Hebert, who carried it down the right side of the field and slid it past Chargers goalie Chris Feltes (Manchester, NH/Trinity).
A penalty kick by senior Aaron Gundle (Portland, OR/Lincoln) gave the homestanding Red Hawks a 2-1 advantage less than five minutes later. The penalty kick was forced when RPI’s Jabel Prom (Sandy Spring, MD/Sherwood) was pulled down coming down the left side of the box.
RPI sophomore Lincoln Field (Warren, NH/Hopkinton) nearly won it for the Red Hawks with 25 seconds left in the first overtime, but Feltes made a diving save to knock the ball out of play.
