CANTON, N.Y. - St. Lawrence overcame a first half deficit with two goals in the final frame and went on to defeat Rensselaer, 2-1, in men's soccer action on Friday afternoon.  With the victory, the Saints improve to 4-1-2 overall and are now 1-0-0 in the league.  The Red Hawks fall to 3-3-1 with a 0-1-0 Liberty League mark. 

 With the game knotted at 1-1, freshman midfielder Ryan Hefner (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) pushed the homestanding Saints ahead after corralling the ball from junior forward Paul LaMarca (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain) at 69:20. 

Rensselaer senior Aaron Gundle (Portland, OR/Lincoln) put the visiting Red Hawks on the board late in the first half after ducking around several defenders for a low shot past Saints goalie Emilio Coletta (Montreal, PQ/Marianapolis College) at 39:29.  Classmate Gary Sroka (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) earned the assist on the goal.

LaMarca, who assisted on Hefner's game-winner, tied things up in the second half after heading the ball past RPI keeper Jeffrey Krywanczyk (Chazy, NY/Chazy Central Rural) off a cross from senior Axel Galeano (Queens, NY/Brooklyn Friends) at 63:36.

Coletta finished with six saves in the win for St. Lawrence.  Krywanczyk stopped seven shots in the loss for RPI.

The Saints return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Vassar (2pm). Rensselaer is also in action on Saturday at Clarkson (2pm).
