TROY, N.Y. – The Saints' Kaitlyn Fahsel (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart Academy) scored the game-winning goal and added an assist as St. Lawrence University claimed a 3-2 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the Liberty League opener for both squads at Harkness Field. The Saints improve to 6-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the league.  RPI falls to 3-3-1 and 0-1-0.

Rensselaer jumped out to the early 1-0 lead on a tally by sophomore forward Amanda Nicklin (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield). Saints goaltender Hayleigh Hochberg (Croton, NY/Croton Harmon) attempted to clear the ball out of the box, but the ball went directly to Nicklin, who sent a hard shot over Hochberg's head in the 38th minute.

St. Lawrence quickly answered with a pair of goals less than four minutes apart for a 2-1 lead at halftime. The first came on a corner kick in the 41st minute when Katie Oram (Melvin Village, NH/Holderness School) headed the ball past Rensselaer’s Meghan White (Kingston, NY/Kingston) to tie the game.

Saints sophomore Lauren Annaldo (Hampton, NH/Winnacunnet) gave the visitors a two-goal cushion in the 44th minute when she sent a cross from Fahsel past White.

The Saints went up 3-1 in the 68th minute as Fahsel found herself with space at the far post, heading a well placed corner from teammate Stanzi McGlynn (Montoursville, PA/Montoursville Area) into the back of the net.

Rensselaer pulled to within a goal (3-2) when Sarah Briggs (Mount Desert, ME/Ellsworth) crashed the St. Lawrence net and scored on a cross from Sarah Hinz (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock) with just over 20 minutes to play, but the Red Hawks could not overcome the deficit.

Hochberg made two saves in the net for St. Lawrence while White stopped nine shots for RPI.

Rensselaer returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Clarkson at Harkness Field (2pm). The Saints play on Saturday at Vassar (2pm).
