ALFRED, N.Y. - Backed by two second-half goals from junior forward Sarah Hinz (Swanzey, NH/Monadnock), the Rensselaer women's soccer improved to 6-3-1 on the season with a 3-0 shutout against Alfred in non-conference action this afternoon. The Saxons fall to 1-9-1 on the season.
After a scoreless first half, the visiting Red Hawks got onto the scoreboard with Hinz's first goal at 62:22. Her second goal of the contest, and team-leading sixth tally of the season, came at the 76:30 mark to give Rensselaer the 2-0 lead.
RPI, which held the homestanding Saxons to just seven shots in the game, got an insurance goal with less than three minutes remaining on the first career tally by freshman Juliana Vetter (Great River, NY/East Islip).
In goal for the Red Hawks, freshman Meghan White (Kingston, NY/Kingston) stopped three shots to improve her personal record to 6-3-0. Meredith Ragan posted ten saves in the Alfred goal.
Rensselaer returns to action next weekend with a pair of Liberty League games against William Smith and Hamilton. Friday's game against the Herons begins at 3pm while Saturday's contest kicks off at 1pm against the Continentals.
