WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore Jodi Feriod’s (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) goal in the 39th minute gave the William Paterson field hockey team a 1-0 victory against visiting Rensselaer today at Wightman Stadium. The Pioneers are now 3-1 while the Red Hawks fall to 2-2.
Following a scoreless first half, Feriod finally broke the scoreless tie when she struck the back of the cage off of a penalty corner play at the 38:03 mark. Playing in stifling heat and humidity, neither team had many quality scoring chances in the contest, as each side registered just four shots on goal.
William Paterson sophomore Christina Auger (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) made four saves for the shutout victory. Kate Williams (Rome, N.Y./Holland Patent) had three stops for the Red Hawks.
The Pioneers will finish the weekend with a home game against SUNY Geneseo on Sunday (1pm). The Red Hawks play at Montclair State, also on Sunday (1pm).
