Box Score

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Union College scored two power play goals and killed five Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) power plays, including two extended 5-on-3 advantages, on its way to a 2-1 win in an ECAC Hockey contest at Messa Rink. The Dutchmen (9-8-3 overall; 4-3-2 ECAC Hockey) has now won five straight games while the Engineers (8-13-3; 3-5-2 ECAC Hockey) has lost eight in a row.

Following a scoreless first period, there was a 32-minute delay between periods due to a malfunctioning zamboni.

RPI freshman Scott Halpern (Boca Raton, FL/Bay State Breakers) put the Engineers ahead at 10:42 of the second period when he broke in alone on Union goaltender Corey Milan (Great Barrington, MA/Penticton Vees) and beat him on a backhander for his first collegiate goal. Freshman Bryan Brutlag (Lakeville, MN/Academy of Holy Angels) sent Halpern in alone for the primary assist.

The Dutchmen came right back to tie the score at 11:09 – just eight seconds into a power play – on a goal by Stephane Boileau (Blainville, PQ/Ste. Jerome Panthers). Jason Walters (Renfrew, ON/Pembroke Lumber Kings) and Michael Beynon (Nepean, ON/Nepean Raiders) earned the assists. Union’s second power play goal of the period, this one by freshman Adam Presizniuk (Calgary, AB/Power River Kings), put the home team ahead, 2-1, with 5:23 remaining in the second period. Presizniuk got the goal, his fourth of the season on his own rebound from just outside the crease. Josh Coyle (Brooklyn, OH/New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs) and Matt Cook (Belle Mead, NJ/Tabor Academy) earned the assists.

RPI senior Jordan Alford (Red Deer, AB/Canmore Eagles) stopped 41 shots, including 16 in the first period and 17 in the second. Milan finished with 21 stops for the Dutchmen.

The two teams meet again on Saturday night at the Houston Field House in Troy. Gametime is 7:07pm and it will be shown live on TimeWarner Cable, channel 3.
