Barker leads Red Hawks to 53-44 win

CANTON, N.Y. – Junior forward Elizabeth Barker tallied game-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds and the Rensselaer women’s basketball team combined to hold St. Lawrence to just 27.6% shooting on its way to a 53-44 win over the homestanding Saints. RPI evens its overall record to 7-7 and its Liberty League mark to 2-2 while SLU falls to 13-2 and 3-1.

Barker (Suffield, CT/Cathedral) finished the game by making 7 of 12 shots from the floor and 4 of 6 from the foul line to lead the offense. Eight of her 10 rebounds were on the defensive end. Senior guard Missy Jackman (Danvers, MA/Danvers) also reached double digits with 10 points.

The game was close throughout the first half as the score was tied on six different occasions. There were three more ties in the second half, including for the final time, 44-44, with 3:05 remaining in the second half, before RPI scored the game’s final nine points. Barker had five of those points, Jackman scored two and junior guard Caitlyn Charest (Swansea, MA/LaSalle Academy) tallied two of her own.

The Red Hawks finished by making 44.7% (21 of 47) of their shots from the floor and outrebounding St. Lawrence by nine (40 to 31).

The Saints, who had won 11 straight games, connected on 16 of 58 shots, including just 6 of 29 (20.7%) in the second half. Individually, they were led by junior guard Katie Palmer (Bourne, MA/Falmouth Academy), who scored 15 points with five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Senior guard Jamie Wolff (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy) added 10 points and four rebounds.
