POTSDAM, N.Y. - Fresh off its victory over St. Lawrence last night, the Rensselaer women's basketball team completed a weekend sweep in the North Country with a 61-52 win over Clarkson this afternoon.  RPI improves to 8-7 overall and 3-2 in the Liberty League while the Golden Knights fall to 3-13-0 and 1-4-0 in conference play.


Lopsided runs dominated the first half, as Missy Jackman (Danvers, MA) scored the first eight points for Rensselaer to help the Red Hawks run out to a 10-2 lead in the first few minutes. Clarkson’s own 8-0 run tied the game back up at 10-10, but Rensselaer responded by ending the half on an 18-6 jaunt to take a double-digit lead into the locker room.

Jackman finished with eight points and two assists for RPI, and Brittney O’Neal (Clinton, CT) came off the bench to score seven points. Tory Lyons (Feeding Hills, MA) also added six points and four rebounds for the Red Hawks. Clarkson’s Alicia Chace (Cortland, NY) scored six points in a full 20 minutes for the Knights, and Casey Laush (Westford, VT) made a pair of 12-footers for four points.

The second half teetered back and forth, but the Red Hawks maintained at least a seven-point advantage, and saw their lead increase to as many as 14 points before finally settling at nine for the final margin.

Jackman finished with 14 points, 4 assists and 2 steals for the Red Hawks, while Lyons contributed 12 points and 7 rebounds.

Clarkson’s Sierra Noles (Averill Park, NY) led all scorers with 15 points, adding in 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Alicia Chace also scored 13 points, shooting 5-for-6 from the field.
