HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate held the Rensselaer men’s hockey team to nine shots and senior Mark Dekanich stopped them all as the Raiders blanked the Engineers, 4-0, in an ECAC Hockey contest at Starr Rink.

Dekanich (North Vancouver, BC/Coquitlam Express) made three saves in the first period, four in the second and two in the third for his second consecutive shutout of the Engineers. He stopped 28 shots in their last meeting on January 12, which was also a 4-0 Colgate win.

Offensively for the Raiders, who had 30 shots on goal, junior forward Tom Riley (Ottawa, ON/Brockville Braves) had a goal and an assist.

Junior forward Joe DeBello (Oswego, IL/Avon Old Farms) put Colgate ahead at 5:56 of the first period and sophomore forward David McIntyre (Pefferlaw, ON/Newmarket Hurricanes) doubled the lead 6:11 into the second period. A Jason Williams (Plattsburgh, NY/New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs) goal late in the middle frame (18:50) put the Raiders ahead 3-0 after two periods.

Riley, who assisted on McIntyre’s goal, closed out the scoring at 6:00 of the third period.

RPI’s Mathias Lange (Klagenfurt, Austria/New York Apple Core) made 26 stops, including 10 in the second period.

The Engineers (9-18-4; 4-10-3 ECAC Hockey) are at league rival Cornell and Colgate (12-12-5; 6-7-4 ECAC Hockey) hosts Union on Saturday. Both games are ECAC Hockey games and both begin at 7pm.
