SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Senior guard Missy Jackman scored a game-high 20 points and the Rensselaer defense held Union to just 38% shooting in defeating the Dutchwomen, 66-61, in a Liberty League women’s basketball contest. RPI improves to 9-11 overall and 4-6 in the league while the Dutchwomen are now 12-9 and 6-5.
Jackman (Danvers, MA/Danvers) finished with a game-high 20 points on 6 of 9 shooting from the floor, including 4 of 7 from behind the three-point line, 4 of 6 from the foul line. As a team, the Red Hawks made 46% (24 of 52) of their baskets, including 6 of 13 (46%) three pointers.
Defensively, Rensselaer kept the home team to 24 baskets on 63 shots, including 3 of 13 (23%) from behind the arc. The Red Hawks also forced 19 turnovers.
In addition to Jackman, RPI junior guards Kerry Hayes (Nashua, NH/Nashua North) and Caitlyn Charest (Swansea, MA/LaSalle Academy) also reached double digits, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
For Union, who hit two three-pointers with under 30 seconds left in the second half to pull within three points (64-61), was led by Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills), who scored 17 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.
Rensselaer returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 2pm at league foe Skidmore. The Dutchwomen host Vassar in a league game on Saturday, also at 2pm.
