HANOVER, N.H. - Behind a 36-save performance from junior netminder Ashley Mayr (Burnaby, BC/BC Breakers), the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team came-from-behind to tie #10 Dartmouth College, 1-1, in ECAC Hockey action this evening. The Engineers are now 12-11-5 overall and 5-8-4 in the league. The Big Green are now 12-7-5 and 9-5-3 in conference play.
Mayr stopped seven shots in the first period, 17 in the second, nine in the third and three in overtime to improve to 3-7-3 on the season.
After skating through a scoreless first period, Dartmouth jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind a power play marker from Shannon Bowman. The goal, which came at 11:23 of the middle frame was assisted by Maggie Kennedy and Sarah Parsons.
Freshman Kendra Dunlop (Granum, AB/Warner Hockey School) made it a 1-1 game in the third period, when she converted a pass from Melissa Boik (Allen Park, MI/Michigan Capitals) on the power play for her ninth tally of the season. Sophomore Laura Gersten (Queensbury, NY/Troy-Albany Ice Cats) was credited with the secondary assist.
Dartmouth's Carli Clemis posted 15 saves in the draw, including six in the opening period.
Tonight's contest marks Rensselaer's first point against the Big Green, having previously gone 0-4-0 since the two team's first met on October 29, 2006.
The Engineers return to action tomorrow afternoon for a contest at Harvard (4pm). The Big Green also return to action on Saturday, hosting Union (4pm).
