BRADENTON, Fla. – Augustana College scored three runs in the first inning, all unearned, one in the seventh and two in the ninth to hand the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team its first loss of the season, 6-3, in a non-league Division III game at Lakewood Ranch High School. The Red Hawks fall to 6-1 while the 15th-ranked Vikings improve to 8-1.

Senior Joe Zongol (Flower Mound, TX/Southington) pitched well in defeat, allowing just five hits and one earned run in 6.1 innings. He struck out three while falling to 1-1.

Offensively, the Red Hawks managed only four hits off senior righthander Brandon Engle (Moline, IL/Moline). Three of RPI’s four hits were doubles by Camden Mamigonian (Dover, NH/Dover), Shane Griffin (Hudson, NY/Hudson) and Matt Muscatiello (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane).

Rensselaer concludes its trip on Saturday against Carthage, the sixth-ranked team in the nation, at 11am.
