TAMPA, Fla. - The Rensselaer baseball team knocked out 15 runs on 21 hits, including five from senior outfielder Dan Valentine, to down #15 Augustana, 15-5. The Red Hawks improve to 7-1 while the Vikings are now 8-2.
Valentine’s (Goshen, CT/Avon Old Farms) day at the plate included five hits in five at bats. Among his hits were two home runs, a double and a pair of singles. He also scored five runs and knocked in three.
Freshman Dan Stroud (Central Nyack, NY/Nyack) also had a big day, going 3 for 6 with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI. Sophomore Pat Reardon (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute) added four hits, two runs and an RBI and classmate Camden Mamigonian (Dover, NH/Dover) was 3 for 6 with a double, a run scored and two runs batted in.
On the mound, RPI senior Tim Klein (Westwood, NJ/St. Joseph Regional) went 6.0 innings for his second win in as many starts. He allowed six hits and four earned runs. Sophomore Andrew Mondo (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) came on the pitch the final 3.0 innings for the save. He had two strikeouts while allowing a hit.
