In the final quarter, sophomore Devin Arnold (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) and senior Alex MacDiarmid (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) closed out the scoring for the 9-3 final margin.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the Red Hawks finally got on the board in the second stanza on a tally by senior midfield Mike Sampson (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington). Off a crisp pass from classmate Briggs Thompson (South Lyme, CT/East Lyme), Sampson rocketed a shot underneath Devils goalie Evan Mager (Suffern, NY/Suffern) at 8:48.

Nearing the end of the second quarter, Fairleigh Dickinson evened things up as senior Peter Schaff (W. Chester, PA/W. Chester East) sent one past RPI goalie Ryan DeJordy (Albany, NY/Columbia) with 1:53 remaining. He was assisted by senior Nick Taylor (Newark, DE/Newark).
The Red Hawks wasted little time in regaining the lead as MacDiarmid scored off a pass from Thompson at 1:19. But the Devils knotted things at 2-2 with 16 seconds on the clock on a goal by freshman Tom Byrne (Bellmore, NY/Mepham) to head into the halftime.
