SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Allie Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) and freshman attack Kristin Joyce (Longmeadow, MA) scored four goals each and senior midfielder Keri Messa (Saratoga Springs, NY) had six assists with a goal as #8 Union College improved to 7-0 with a 19-5 victory over Rensselaer in a Liberty League women’s lacrosse game at Frank Bailey Field. The Dutchwomen are 4-0 in the league. The Red Hawks fall to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Freshman attack Chelsea Charette (South Hadley, MA) scored three goals and assisted on another while Jill LaForest (Acton, MA) and Casey Dianni (Rye, NY) tallied twice each for Union. The Dutchwomen got single scores from Emily Bryson (Charletown, MA), Caitlin Cuozzo (Norfolk, MA) and Shelby Cutter (Needham, MA). Allie Cuozzo had game highs of eight shots, seven shots on net and six ground balls.
RPI got single scores from Morgan Wahl (Lexington, MA), Natalie White (Guilford, CT), Kerri Clark (Saratoga Springs, NY), Carly Mahony (Topsfield, MA) and Emily Donowick (West Seneca, NY). Starting goaltender Ariana Hood (Severn, MD) stopped eight shots, all in the first half, in nearly 40 minutes of work.
Union scored the first five goals of the contest, posting a 5-0 lead when Bryson notched her fourth of the year with 18:52 left in the first half. Wahl put RPI on the board at 17:18, but the Dutchwomen scored the next four goals for a 9-1 lead. After a White goal on a free position at 1:36, Joyce scored the 22nd of her freshman season with just three seconds remaining in the half. Union scored four more in the first 7:12 of the second half, with Joyce scoring two of those goals, for a 14-2 lead.
The Dutchwomen outshot RPI, 34-15, including 22-11 in the first half en route to a 10-2 halftime lead. Union won 18 draw controls and had a 23-17 ground ball advantage. The Dutchwomen forced 22 turnovers.
Union returns to action April 11 for a Liberty League contest at Rochester. RPI hosts league rival Vassar April 12 at 2pm.
