GENEVA, N.Y. - Senior guard Whitney Coleman tallied a game-high 24 points and three others reached double figures to lead Rensselaer to a 71-56 Liberty League win over William Smith.  The Red Hawks are now 9-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.  The win marks the team's first win over the Herons since Jan. 29, 2005.  William Smith falls to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League.

RPI built a 20-9 lead on a Sara Wetmore jumper with 13:33 left in the first half. William Smith's Erin Cunningham brought the home side back with a quick 6-0 run to cut the Red Hawks lead to five (20-15) over the next 2:30.

Latasha Coney gave the Herons a brief lead on a lay-up with just over four minutes to play in the first, but RPI senior Kerry Hayes tied the game up on the ensuing trip. A pair of free throws from senior Elizabeth Barker in the closing seconds, gave the Red Hawks a 34-31 lead at the break.

A Paige Myers three-pointer knotted things up at 39 with a little over 16 minutes to go, but the Red Hawks answer once again as Barker hit two more from the line to reclaim the lead.

The Herons came within a point just once the rest of the way and Coleman privided the scoring down the stretch for the Red Hawks.

Along with Coleman's 24, Wetmore chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds. Hayes finished with 11 points and eight boards and senior Caitlyn Charest recorded 10 points.

The Herons were led by Cunningham, who had 19 points and Ashlinn Butler who had a double-double, tallying 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The Red Hawks visit Hamilton tomorrow for a 2pm tip-off.
