Women's Basketball Defeats Clarkson, 72-55, to Improve to 12-3

TROY, N.Y. – Freshman Sarah Wetmore scored a game-high 20 points and senior Whitney Coleman added 19 to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to a 72-55 victory over Clarkson University in a Liberty League contest at Robison Gym.

A 6-0 run to end the first half allowed RPI to open an 11-point lead at the break, 36-25. Clarkson pulled to with seven points twice midway through the second half but the Red Hawks went on a 16-5 run for a 64-46 lead with 6:09 to play. RPI maintained the double digit advantage to the end on its way to improving to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights fall to 6-10 and 1-4.

Wetmore (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln Sudbury Regional), who had a game-high 22 points on Friday night against St. Lawrence, scored 15 of her points in the first half. She also had eight rebounds, an assist and three steals. Coleman (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Etiwanda) had four rebounds and a game-high six assists to go with her 19 points. Caitlyn Charest (Swansea, MA/LaSalle Academy) also reached double digits with 10 points, while Elizabeth Barker (West Suffield, CT/Cathedral) had eight points and 14 rebounds.

Clarkson was led by junior Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker), who scored 14 points with six rebounds. Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Katie Goldberg (Stowe, VT/Stowe) had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Golden Knights return to action on Friday night at 6pm when they host conference foe William Smith at Alumni Gym. Rensselaer, which moved into a tie for first place, travels to Skidmore for a Liberty League game on Friday night at 6pm.
