TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly award winners and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Brandon Pirri was named Rookie of the Week for the week ending on October 25. The forward helped the team to a 2-0 record, recording four points in the two games.

A native of Toronto, Ont., Pirri netted two goals – including the game-winner in overtime – in the Engineers 4-3 victory over Sacred Heart on Friday night. He then picked up two assists and was on the ice for all three RPI goals in the club's 3-2 win over American International on Saturday.

Pirri, who is a former member of both the Georgetown Raiders and Streetsville Derbys of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), leads Rensselaer with three goals and has three assists. He is tied with junior Tyler Helfrich with a team-best six points.

Last season, Pirri recorded 94 points on 46 goals and 48 assists in just 44 games in the OJHL. He was also the top scorer for the Canada East team that took home the bronze medal in the 2009 World Jr. Championships. An All-Canadian Junior Hockey League First Team selection, he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the second round (59th overall) in the 2009 NHL entry draft.

The Engineers have opened the season with a 3-2-1 record and are currently riding a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1). They visit Union College on Friday (7pm), before welcoming Army to the Houston Field House on Saturday (7pm).
