ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 with a 12-6 win over Rensselaer on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The Tigers used a strong second half, outscoring the Red Hawks 9-1 to erase a first half deficit.
RIT outshot Rensselaer 38-29 and won the ground ball battle, 41-26. Face-offs were even at 11 apiece.
Austin Ray led Rensselaer with four points on two goals and two assists.
Ryan Bigham had two goals and an assist and
Josh Secora added pair of goals.
Ryan DeJordy took the loss allowing 12 goals and making 14 saves.
Adam Lehmann and Iric Bressler paced the RIT offense with three points apiece. Lehmann scored three goals, all in the second half, while Bressler had a goal and two assists. Kevin Rattigan picked up the win for RIT, allowing six goals and making seven saves.
Ray and Secora put RPI out in front, scoring the first two goals of the team. The Tigers responded with a pair of goals in the final 1:14 of the opening quarter from David Burke and Bressler.
The second quarter belonged to Rensselaer. The Red Hawks outscored the Tigers 3-1 in the quarter and led 5-3 at the half.
The Tigers came out firing in the third quarter, outscoring the Red Hawks 5-0 in the third and 9-1 in the second half.
Lehmann scored all three of his goals in the third quarter, including the tying goal with 10:27 to play in the third. Billy Walton opened the scoring in the third quarter with a nice behind-the-back goal on a feed from Bressler with RIT on man-up.
Chris Cherami tallied an unassisted goal with 8:49 to play in the quarter giving RIT their first lead of the game.
Burke, Cherami, Kelso Davis and Alex Crepinsek each scored in the fourth quarter to salt the game away for the Tigers. The goal by Crepinsek off the opening face-off of the quarter was his first collegiate goal.
